This is an unusual wooden carving of some type of being. It is 22" tall and carved from one piece of dense dark wood of which I don't know the species, possibly Oak. There are no marks noted as to the carver. It has a Folk Art feel to my eye. The cloth wrap around its pointed ears was on it when found. Perfect for the Baby's Room. Thoughts/opinions?

Agree, it looks like folk art. No features that are typical of a specific culture, so....

Broke its left ear and someone out a bandaid on it! Other than that, I dunno. It's kinda cute but what animal is it supposed to be?

To me, the animal looks like a coyote/fox/wolf/dog type thing. The short muzzle may have been a constraint of the size of the piece of wood. My first impression is that it might be from northern Mexico, perhaps Seri (Comcaac) or Tarahumara, and made of ironwood (Olneya tesota). What I can see of the toolmarks look like knife and chisel, perhaps some adze marks.

Identification of the wood could be an important clue, but would probably need examination by a wood specialist and possibly a sample take from the bottom of a foot.

I love it! And yes, it’s perfect for any weird little babies room. Better than any stuffy I’ve seen!
