Just a quick note to anyone wanting to use Phil's wonderful site - it's down at the moment, I contacted him and this was his response: "My site has now been down for around 12 hours. My ISP tells me it is a problem at the data centre where they host the server and that it is affecting numerous sites. They are hoping that the outage will not last too much longer but can give no estimates for restoration of service." ~Cheryl
Thanks for the info. I know many of us would be lost without Phil's site, which is indeed wonderful. So let's hope for him and for us that the problem will be solved soon.
So true - and one of only two informational silver sites I know of that has no monetization... ~Cheryl
Figures. Sanity is in short supply lately, and said short supply is taking reliability of service providers down with it. May someone upstream of SMM have both neurons start firing.
My ISP is working on a backup plan, moving all their affected sites to a different server. If the data centre can't sort out the problem my ISP's plan should restore service by tomorrow morning.
@silvermakersmarks Some comments, lest you feel unappreciated: "Hopefully it will be working soon it’s quite an asset." "Hopefully it's just a technical issue, as its a great resource and would be very sad to see it go." "It is a great site." "His site is the best." "Phil’s site is incredible and I have always been so grateful for it." "Please thank Phil on behalf of us all who have found his site to be consistently useful, easy to navigate, logically set forth, and the best place on the web to research British marks. THANK YOU, PHIL!!" ~Cheryl
Blush? I'm positively beetroot-coloured! Thank you everybody. On a positive note, the site now appears to be up and running again. Although I haven't yet had a notification from my ISP it looks like they pulled out all the stops and managed to re-host my site at a different location / server. My "Contact-me" form is not yet working and I am still unable to make updates to the site as both of these depend on the old host which I guess is sitting, unreachable, in the data centre. Phil
I'm positively beetroot-coloured! ............. May I suggest a good silver Polish for that ?? It's all good news !!!!
