Featured Anyone Have a Toothpick Holder Book?

Bought a few Victorian glass toothpick holders. Both stand 2 1/4" tall. Google lens says this is the Diana pattern and is number 1011 in the National Toothpick Holder Collectors Society book. I also have a Roman soldier toothpick holder. Any other info is appreciated.

 

You can't request it through your local library? Many offer statewide borrowing privileges.

Deb, I will have to go over there. They had changed the way they did their library cards so I never renewed mine.

 

They both look like the same pattern with a different but related carving in the medallion. It might have been a set of several or sold separately (cuz who needs 6 or 8 TP holders). The 2nd one is likely a god (like Mars maybe) and not a Roman soldier.

I have the book. Toothpick Holders: China, Glass and Metal, Prepared by the National Toothpick Holder Collector's Society. ISBN #PB 0-915410-88-5. Curiously, the book isn't dated but the separate price guide is for 1996-1997. It reads "1010-1011 ANTHONY & DIANA. Intaglio images frosted. Holder slightly oval in shape. Possibily European. Only other item known is a small, shallow nut dish or ash tray."

Anthony looks very similar to Diana but the head is facing in the opposite direction. Price listed in the guide is $35 for each. If the other item IS an ashtray then possibly this was a cigarette holder rather than a toothpick? Cigarettes without filter were much shorter. Just a thought.
