Bought this at an estate sale. It does have a more modern zipper, the zipper name is Talon, which could make it somewhat older. Bag measures 10 3/4" x 12". The top has leather which is hand sewn onto the bag. Inside has a main compartment and a good size pocket.

It would be helpful if you posted a photograph of the TALON zipper pull.

I don't see an exact match but looks Art Deco to my eye.

Yep Debora-If I were to get my (pre/early War) prototype G-1 WWII Naval Flying Jacket restored, it'd have to be done w/ a regulation zipper.
It is indeed amazing how much 'dead stock' is out there .
PS- Beautiful bag, it'd get my old butt off the couch.

Considering that almost all clothing makers have changed to the crappy plastic zippers, it is no wonder that good old reliable metal zippers are in demand. Even if you don't know how to sew one in, there are folks out there who can do it for you for a fee.

What about it makes it a 'Corn Husk' bag? Is it the patterns, or the materials...or was that the purpose of that size an' style; to store the husks?

Many of the local Yakima & Nez Perce Corn Husk bags (I know of anyway) were woven from corn husks and hemp dogbane, hence the name Cornhusk Bags, and they can be worth a purty penny.
This one though, being of a later date (with the leather & zipper) could have been woven w/ cotton- still a real beaut !
@kraftblue did you hit the sale early or on sale day ?

The material it is made from is twined corn husks. Primarily made by the Nez Perce, they were large, flat bags, characterized by a by a different design on each side, composed of various dyed triangles on a plain twined background, which also helps in identifying the source.

The zipper design is a later adaptation of an earlier saddlebag, but it is helpful in dating it, after the introduction of the horse. It's basically a very distinctly regional design, and very desirable.

Bosko69, the sale said no early birds so we got there before the "official' start. People were already inside. I bought this bag, a Chinese 19th century teapot, an Air France item, a silverplate ladle, 2 porcelain fish figures and a firing glass for..............$10 Taupou, thank you for your input, as always!

Bosko, the lady running the sale was selling her father's estate who passed away. She said he collected or like NA items. Butt someone told her since it had a zipper it wasn't that old.

    Jackpot @kraftblue !
PS-I've always been touchy about the no 'early birds' thing, but you've gotta figure the really rabid addicts are simply by their bloodlust pathology- gonna be there rudely early !
Did the listing sound like it was going to be this 'juicy' ?
