Any thoughts on this glass? It came in a lot of mid-century glass that I purchased at a local auction. Google images suggests it is EAPG. I was curious why the names would be etched (if that is the right term) onto the rim. IMG_0787-compressed.jpeg IMG_0789-compressed.jpeg IMG_0790-compressed.jpeg

It probably is EAPG that turned sun purple. I don't have my books any more but you can try to find the pattern at eapgs.org. EDIT: it's EAPGS.NET

Oops! I know nothing about EAPG. It has been sitting in front of my window with some of my other glass. I guess it doesn’t matter now that it has turned.

familysearch.org has no record of a John Chaddick. Not a common surname mostly found on the East Coast.

AI Overview of Chaddick's in NM:

Yes, there are historical records of families with the surname Chaddick, or similar spellings, associated with New Mexico. [1]
    • Historical Records: According to MyHeritage, a John S. Chaddick (born circa 1875) lived in New Mexico and passed away there in 1920.
    • Surname Variations: The surname is sometimes found in genealogy records with spelling variations such as Chaddick, Chadick, or Chadwick. For example, Legacy reported on a Chadwick in Rio Rancho, NM in 2022.
    • Genealogy Data: Records from Ancestry.com indicate that the Chaddick family has historically been found in the United States, with many records in the South and Southwest. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
While they may not be a large, widely documented family in the state, the name has appeared in regional records. [1, 2, 3]

This type of item was a souvenir. The seller would etch the person's name or whatever they wanted in the stained portion of the goblet. I can't imagine what the event might have been. If you look up Lordsburg, NM, it's a tiny (pop. 2800) town in SW New Mexico, barely a blip of the map.

Probably an engraved "while you wait" souvenir of wherever you happened to be. The flashed glass pieces were everywhere. I can't remember seeing on iridized like that before.

Me neither, but I thought that may have been done by the exposure to the sun. The ruby stained items I've seen appear to have a bit of an iridized look to them, but this goblet looks silver in the photo.

Beacon Street in Boston has a row of antique homes where the glass has turned purple with age. This is from the internet, but I've walked past them many times:

The iconic purple glass windows on Beacon Street and throughout Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood are a 19th century anomaly caused by a chemical reaction. Imported glass (circa 1818–1824) contained high levels of manganese oxide, which, when exposed to sunlight, turned a distinctive amethyst color over time

I was wondering the same thing. It definitely has a metallic or opalescent sheen.
