A $5 thrift find, I love the large ruffled stones. This is strung on thread, and the vintage clasp is marked sterling. I know the clasp may not be original, but I have a feeling it is. Are the large beads lampwork beads? Are they older? Are they Italian, Japanese, or something else? Is there a name for the large ruffled beads? I used Google lens, found nothing like them. Thanks.

I'd be thinking artisan made, about 20-25 years ago. The bead in the last shot is molded fire-polished. The ruffled ones look Chinese or similar. It doesn't read old.

I agree: artisan or skilled home craftperson, one who doesn't knot. Maybe silk bead cord rather than thread? Clasp could be vintage, salvaged from something like a string of artificial pearls that had become tatty. Those opalescent beads look like what is under the coating on faux pearls. Doesn't answer your real questions I'm afraid.
