I have tried Google Lens and have been researching coins, no luck. A few things...I do think they are genuine coins, but not silver (925 anyway.) They are not magnetic. They clean up a little with a Sunshine cloth. I don't know if the lobster clasp is original to the piece. No markings, could be old coins in a modern base metal setting.

Can anyone tell me about the coins and necklace? Country of origin, type of coin, date of the large coin? $5, not going anywhere, mine! Thanks.

Edit: I found out the big one is an Ottoman Turkush? 5 para. Not seeing one exactly like mine.

I think original clasp would have been a simple hook.

The year might refer to reign dates rather than mint dates. The tugrah was used on coinage long after the reign of the Sultan whose siggit it was.

My coin is missing the ridges shown around the edge....do you think mine a fake coins made to look like the originals? They are heavy and substantial.

Say replicas rather, made for use in jewelry. They did/do that too.

These coin necklaces can be confusing, but the roughly cast base metal parts and the clasp are signs that it is not traditional.
It is a modern Boho necklace and the coins are fake. In Europe we call it Ibiza style, after the Spanish island that is known as a "party island".
Made this century. Some say made in Turkey, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were made in China.

Just to add that these coins (the original ones) can be copper, silver or gold, depending on their nominal value, and that they bear both the year of the accession of the sultan to the throne according to the Islamic calendar together with coin's nominal value (reverse) and the year of the coin mintage (obverse) but counted as the consequent year of the sultan's reign - e.g. year 1 of XX sultan's reign, year 2 of XX sultan reign, etc. - below the personal signature/toughra of this particular sultan.

Bronwen is right - Marko's coin is supposed to be a 40 para Ottoman coin bearing on the obverse the personal stamp (toughra) of Sultain Abdülmecid I and indicating year 25th of the sultan's reign - this is the Arabic numeral figure indicated below the toughra. The thing is that this sultan reigned 22 years and it is not possible to have year 25th of his reign. The next sultan minted coins with different toughra as toughra was personal and distinct of each sultan.

So Any is proven right in her suspicions that the coins are fake.

Below is what the coin should look like
    40 Para - Abdülmecid I (Constantinople) - Ottoman Empire – Numista

I've never stopped and looked at one. But, I have seen quite a few like this in antique shops. They're probably different pieces, but same design.

    It's very neat.

One correction in my post: the year is not 25th but 20th. Nevertheless, it is till suspicious, as the coin should be yellowish (it is copper), and as far as I can see, it has ridges around the edge only on the reverse.

Also, these coins are cast, whereas original coins are struck from a sheet of metal.
