Sometimes I take a chance on a basket that I cannot readily identify, so I am looking for help on this one. It is larger than it appears - 12" across at the top and 7 1/2" tall. Rather heavy. Grass bundle coiling, stitched with natural and dyed grass - rather shiny, and not palm leaf. I don't want to prejudice any opinions, so will keep my speculations to myself at the moment.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I agree not old, more contemporary. The colors and technique of "beading" (the overlay elements) remind me of some Coast/Interior Salish baskets I have seen, such as this -

And this one seems related, although I am not sure I can trust the seller's ID -
    (eBay item number:286966052425)

(Has anyone figured out why ebay links now just go to a black page?)

I just remembered - if you copy the link provided here rather than clicking on it, and then paste it into your search engine it seems to work.

You can also delete the first part of the link, everything before the second 'https'. Then click on what is left, and you see the page.

The base looks like it could be Yupik to me, in both technique and color, but I've not seen decorative embellishments exactly like these. Based on the comparables you've found, maybe that's a contemporary trend.
