Bought today Came with 90 photos (Belgian, French, German, American) Late 19th/early 20th? And any idea who's in that open carriage? (no info on the card)
That is Mary of Teck who became Queen Mary consort of King George V 1910-1936 mother of Edward VIII + George VI Grandmother to QEII. These were my photographs. I even had that visitor book and her autograph.
Very nice find, Marote. White parasols were fashionable at the time, especially during summer. Dutch Queen Wilhelmina with white parasol (and hubby): The parasol in Marote's picture is the same model, with the rather long flounce. The rather boring building in the background also looks Dutch, or possibly Danish.
Difficult to see who it is, we can't see the lady's face. But in every photograph I've seen of Queen Mary with parasol, she carries a plain white parasol without a flounce or lace, more like an umbrella. Since the lady in the picture has a parasol with long flounce, I think it unlikely that she is Queen Mary. Queen Wilhelmina is a more likely option, since she owned such a parasol.
I was going off Komo's photos, I didn't realise they were not Marote's He threw a spanner in the works
I love the beautiful etched or carved decorations on the wood. Antique pieces like this are so finely made. Very cool!
The graphoscope’s round magnifying glass allows for detail views of cabinet cards, tintypes, engravings, and other single photographic images, while the lower stereo glasses are for the viewing of stereographic cards.
The local thrift store held an auction. Well, not an actual auction. It was more like: during a few weeks you can send in an offer on items, and while they updated the score at first, 2 days before the "auction" ended, they didn't. So in the end it was really just a matter of sending in a best offer and keep your fingers crossed, hoping other bids would be lower. And my finger crossing skills turn out to be the best
Indeed Dutch. I thought I had posted the entire photo, but only today I noticed that there's a Dutch text on one of the buildings... I will post the entire pic asap. Found another photo from the same day/persons I tried to find pics of Wilhelmina in such a setting with Google, but I didn't find any pics of her in an open carriage next to another woman.
And now I think I've got it.... https://www.stadsarchiefkampen.nl/meer-weten-over/pronkstukken/item/koninklijkbezoek Queen Regent Emma and Queen Wilhelmina during a visit to Kampen in 1895
