Help to identify this knife , thank you for all members

 

The sheath carving, the upper half, appears to be an Heraldic Crest of some sort...the foliage beneath that, as well as the specific blossoms an' their leaves on the grip should key into it. The brass tip of the sheath, an' the general pattern of the blade (no obvious ricasso, no fuller; might be saber-ground) should place it reasonably in time.
I'm thinking last half of the 19th C...bicbw.

 

The crest-like carving looks like it is connected to some craft or industry. There are several tools, among them an axe, and it is topped by a compass.
Maybe it has to do with construction of wooden buildings?

 

I see that now...also a tee-square an' a try-square!

 

looks like bovine bone , & I'd think a one off hand made by a talented craftsperson.
the clip point blade looks like it started life with a different handle.

 

Yes, the carving designs on the handle and the sheath don't look like they went together originally.

 

Longer I look at it, the better I like it. Thanks!
