Up to my stupid tricks again, I bought this big vase on a bicycle tour on the Oregon coast, and then carried it with me for a couple days.

I have this wishful hope that's it's somehow Japanese, but I have no idea.

11" tall (27cm) and 6.5" wide. I supplied the Chinese stand, but could be absurdly unrelated.

Interesting glaze has a subtle crackle, and is slight iridescent.

    Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

    VERY Yum, especially that glaze!
From the rim appearance, it looks thin-walled. Is that the case? Coil-built, thrown...or slip-cast?
    What does it weigh, Potts?

It's fairly thin. It 'rings' when I flip my fingernail against the inside rim. Don't know how much it weights--- not at home at present. There's no 'seam' to indicate that it was machine-made, but I can't swear to that.

Looks like it might be a tenmoku glaze, and if it rings may be on porcelain.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that, and of course that happens. It's often obvious to me when that's the case, but this one feels different to me, like it didn't have a lid. Very possible that that's my wishful thinking, of course.

it's altogether possible that the rim is not high enuf for a lid....... but I think I'm seeing some wear below it.... ;):confused::cool::cool:

Here's a closer-up-er of the rim. There's ever-so-slight unevenness in the rim too. Not sure if picture #2 captures that.

I thought it was missing a lid as well.

A lid makes sense, of course.

I always appreciate the observations I get here. For real!

Did it come with the wooden stand?

    the
way it flares outward.........I'm unsure if a lid would sit right...

Agree. The white clay looks like kaolin clay, which is used for porcelain.
I don't think it ever had a lid.
