I picked this up at the car boot this morning. I put it down on first inspection and decided that I just have too many paintings. I couldn't make out the artist's signature. I did a full circuit of the car boot before returning and changing my mind.

It appears to be a water colour by Octave Louis van Cuyck (1870–1956).

Signature looks right. A nice example of his work.

Very nice but it would look better in a different frame.

I don't mind the frame. Very much of its time and place.

Id say the frame is almost as old as the painting if not original. Its part of the history and I wouldnt' like to change it.

One last thing. There appear to be some words imprinted on the mount near the bottom. I can't make them out. Not sure if they relate to the art work or are manufacturer marks.

A bright flashlight / torch pointing from the side across those letters might make them easier to read.

I cheated. 'Ingres cover fabriano'. Its a type of acid free paper/card by Fabriano I think.

I found this inside too. Looks like a name and address. Someone has cut part of the painting away. How odd!
