Featured German Vintage Perfume lamp or night light

Is anyone familiar with perfume lamps? I'm thinking that's what this is. Several small hole openings in the front.

Cord has been cut so buyer will have to restore, but wanted to list properly. Stamped "Germany" on base. Thanks!

The top has this indentation which I thought might be for some perfume oil possibly? Not sure how these work.

Yes, it is a perfume lamp.

I tell everyone that these are the antique/vintage version of the Glade plug-ins. Except they are usually much prettier.

Case in point - c.1926 DeVilbiss perfume lamp - glass is by Steuben - base & cap done in hammered copper.



You would put a few drops of the perfume oil in the indentation & the light would warm it & make the room smell good.

These were also marketed as nightlights for a child's bedroom depending on the subject matter.

I don't think you will be able to find out what company made this one, so maybe just list it with a descriptive title. Maybe mentioning the top hat & those eyes.

I did not find another one like this either on a Google search or searching eBay. I also looked through the IPBA virtual museum, but had no luck there either.

I actually did find one in my Google search, but it was the photos posted here as usual.

That DeVilbiss perfume lamp with glass by Steuben is amazing!!

I was thinking that indentation in mine meant perfume maybe. Glad for the confirmation. It's a cute little guy with the flowers. Looks so German to me, almost has a Schafer & Vater look.

I got this about 6 months ago at a garage sale. Several things from the woman's grandmother.

I knew there was a German company but it was way too late for the brain to spit out the correct name.

The lamp was one of my many DeVilbiss white whales that I managed to buy at an auction about 1 1/2 years ago.

Your little guy is very cute & looks to be in very good condition.

Hopefully there is a collector out there that is eager to add him to their collection.

I first saw it in person back in 2007 & it was love at first sight. There is nothing like running your fingers up & down on a piece of Steuben Aurene glass!!

 

If the perfume diffuses from the top, the perforations are not for that. Maybe to keep the lamp from becoming too hot?

 

Maybe doubles as a bit of a nightlight, too. The bulb inside which I guess heats the perfume would also show through. And good point, might be to keep the lamp from getting too hot.
