Featured Large sprigged jasperware jardiniere

I picked this up today. Initial thoughts were Wedgwood, but it's not marked. Adams springs to mind too. This result below by Clews has a very similar vine pattern around the rim.

Me too. The slipware bits are really intricate and bonny.

 

I believe it was a lamp.

 

Oh okay. I'd not considered that. It's about the right dimensions for a lamp. I was wondering why a jardiniere would be so tall. They are usually more squat. Might be why it is unmarked too.

I'd suggest looking at Dudson as a possible maker. Wedgwood was/is pretty particular about marking their pieces; Dudson, not always marked, did this same pattern.

 

Would a wine bottle fit in it?

I just happened to have an empty one spare. Yes a good fit with about 10mm spare around the base.

 

I'd forgotten about Dudson! Good call.
