If I remember rightly this book is decades old? This has always been very pricey did you buy it?

It is quite old but is a really lovely book and places like Michael Backman Antiques in London use it as a reference. I did actually buy it but it was a lot cheaper than buying it from the U.K. or Europe. I bought it from the Strand Bookshop in Manhattan (the first time I have been there) and it’s amazing bookshop with a rare book room. Worth a look if you ever go to New York.

 

Ah but you don’t know how old I am - I do have a grey beard and moustache which my kids say makes my face look like a badgers bum (polite version). The brain cells are also ebbing away with the tides. Gutted for you about the box. I had a similar experience recently. Life always gets in the way. Very frustrating.

Hey, just got to the party! With all the interest in The Wall in the first bit, all I could think of was that old aphorism: Those who live in stone houses shouldn't throw glasses. Sorry. It's getting late.

You're right, I didn't know that some of the antiques that have been shown here are masonry. Robert Frost observed "Something there is that doesn’t love a wall," but that something is not Antiquers.

Technically the wall is older than many of the pieces on here and it is a fine example of flint construction, even signed by the builder. I'm not upset that my antiques often spoil the beauty of the wall or distract from discussing it's flit and lime glory
