I love this.

 

Fine North German or Danish late Empire mahogany chest of drawers, circa 1820–1830. Veneered in richly figured pyramid (crotch) mahogany, with serpentine-front drawers, turned columns with carved capitals, and a substantial plinth base. A high-quality example of Northern European cabinetmaking. Bought at through another dealer that bought it at auction. approx. $400.

 

((drool)) I wouldn't have bought it, but dang I'd have wanted to.

 

Makes me think of one that was just on AR. It was from the 1600s, and the prior owner had painted it gray and was keeping his tools in it

A beautifully proportioned mahogany drop-leaf table in the Scandinavian Karl Johan style, dating to circa 1830. $150

 

Yeah, that purchase was not the best from a economic point of view. I just loved it! Probably sells in the range of $400 - $1000.

 

It's only a bad buy, until you try to find a solid wood table made of mahogany made new at any price.

 

When I was taking pictures of something else, I found something I didn't remember having. It looks like a little rosary case, but with a Star of David on the lid. It's a bitty travel/pocket mezuzah. Where it came from I don't know.

I will measure him tomorrow (i.e., later today, as it's 1:45am here), but he will be more than 24 cm, as he didn't fit in a box (that was part of this haul) with that size.

 

Yes, made in Jepara, Java, ca 1930-1950. I have never seen one before, but it would look nice with the Jepara correspondence boxes you see regularly on Marktplaats. If you want to look for one to go with the blotter, they are sold as Balinese, Javanese or just as Indonesian, but rarely as Jepara. Or message me.

Is this cigarette dispenser I have also Jepara?

I wanted to describe them as Chinese locks, but I remember also seeing them being sold as Indonesian, when I looked for information after buying a bigger version of these locks last year. So I wasn't sure if describing them as Chinese would be accurate...
Unfortunately that bigger lock has a broken locking mechanism

Took another look at it today. Definitely no additional info on it.
I did notice that 2 diamonds were missing, but some time ago, I bought a box that included zirconias, so now it's complete again

Now I'm even seeing a 5 in it (based on the photo) ...


Can't find anything online with 193/195/198

But I will take another look at the actual item again later today.
