Phone took more time than expected to take the pic, and I moved it too soon, resulting in those Zs. In reality those Zs are just dots.

If I didn't know what brown wood is selling for, I'd think you stole it. Dang that's nice.

I think there is a strong case that high-quality antique furniture from the neoclassical period—roughly 1750–1850—could be a surprisingly good long-term investment at today’s prices. If you bought selectively now, focusing on genuinely good pieces with quality materials, craftsmanship, originality and provenance, and simply stored or used them carefully for the next 10–20 years, I wouldn’t be surprised if the best pieces outperformed the S&P 500.

Prices for a lot of traditional European furniture seem close to rock bottom in real terms. Pieces that required enormous amounts of skilled labour, expensive materials and craftsmanship 150–250 years ago can sometimes be bought today for less than a used piece of mass-produced furniture. In many cases, the current market price bears almost no relationship to either the cost of reproducing the object today or its historical and aesthetic quality.

Obviously, I wouldn’t expect all antique furniture to appreciate. The opportunity is probably concentrated in pieces that are genuinely good: strong proportions, desirable woods, original surfaces and fittings, good condition, interesting construction and recognisable period character. But at current valuations, I think the risk/reward on exceptional pieces is unusually interesting.

Definitely worth a try! And in the meantime, you've got some really nice furniture to use or just admire!
