Featured Sarreguemines vase

I saw this on ebay a few weeks ago with a starting price of £15 and got hooked. I placed a bid and there was no other competition. It was clearly described as restored and it looks like the damage was catastrophic. Its a very good restoration job though and you csn barely notice it from the outside.

Not all listings for the Campina vases in the links show the base/bottom, but three bases are shown, and those all have a white glaze. OP's vase has a beige glaze on the base, so it is different from the Campina bases shown.

Wow. I wasn't expecting such an in depth analysis. Thanks for all the information. It will take me a while to read and digest.

I have a feeling that the base was reglazed/enamelled as part of the restoration as there is also a chip on the rim of the base. It may well have been a different colour originally. Aside the restoration, I was starting to think that there was something else very wrong with it, such as it being a modern repro because I was struggling to find anything similar. I think I found one piece with slight similarities.

The wording on the base has likely lost sharpness due to the restoration. I will try to take a better image but our friend, the sun has just vanished over the horizon and natural light is fading fast.

Whoever smashed it must have felt really ill afterwards. I'm just glad to own it, even in its current condition.

 

Regards the 'Z' I can't see one. I can see an X and Sarreguemines impressed twice, U, 408, 13 and a round impressed mark that looks like a V in a circle perhaps.

 

The vase is marked Sarreguemines which is French. Not sure how Campina and Turn Teplitz come into it, as they are Austrian...

Christine has vanished too. Posts removed from other thread too. I think AI has its place but using it as an absolute and pretending it's research and knowledge is a bit odd.

 

I had my doubts about her posts from the first one I read. They were too long, and seemed disjointed, like they didn't belong. I couldn't figure out if they were relevant or not, and didn't really understand most of what was written. I mean, who speaks like that? Her style wasn't conversational. Do you think the account was real?

 

I went back to the INH post about a Val St Lambert vase. Out of nowhere, that person inserted information about Gunnar Ander/Lindshammar glass. Whaaat?? And linked to non-relevant pieces of glass. Maybe the poster was an AI agent sent here to disrupt? Or one of those AI programs that jumped the fence and hacked us! LOL.

Could one of the Mods have removed her?

Did you have a chance to read any of her posts? They were very odd. Reading them made me feel distorted.

 

Yeah I think it was a real person with real issues. Some sort of attention seeking behaviour going on. I was taken in by it at first until I started to read the content and look at the links. Then I realised that there was very little relevance
