Well I think it's a vase or maybe just an ornament. Its like thick cased glass. The light shines through and makes the the sides glow where it hits. Very tactile. Ø=8cm

Would it hold a votive candle?

Im not sure how wide a votive candle is. Its 40mm wide so perfect for a tea light.

Votive candle is the American term for a tealight.:)

But I think the diameter at the base may be very close in size. Some votive candles flare slightly.

I think a tealight would extinguish itself in the bottom. Its better suited to a votive. If it had a candle stuck in it, it would lose the glowy light effect though.

It would need to sit down into the glass, not just wedge in on top. The various little cups I have that are meant for a candle are the right size for either a tealight or a votive. A simple straight sided one has an interior diameter of 3cm.

We've been having thunderstorms off & on all day. Maybe I should get my candles ready!

Funny you should say that, we are in the middle of one here but it's quite tame. Sat here with the lights off waiting for a big flash :0

It's mostly just rumbling here in Manhattan. The real activity is usually across the Hudson River, in New Jersey. The radio station I listen to has its transmitter somewhere farther south in NJ. Often I can tell when a storm that has not yet reached us is on the way by the crackling of static on the radio. Today the station has had periods of the sound dropping out & coming back, so they must be getting hit hard. This is different from the usual pattern of a heavy storm dumping rain with wind, then moving on to the north & east. Today it seems to be sitting here, alternating quiet with the drums.

I'm afraid it is not going to be a good night for eclipse viewing, which peaks here at midnight. :cyclops: :(

There was a thunderstorm here during the night, so we couldn't see the eclipse.:(
