Featured Help to ID Glass Covered Compote

Purchased recently and thought it would be easy to ID. Found one on eBay and the seller says it's EAPG Flint Glass in the Barred Oval pattern. Checked the EAPGS site and this doesn't look anything like Barred Oval. Also, checked my book, Pattern Glass Reproductions and didn't find it. It doesn't glow under UV, and I'm fairly certain it is not EAPG, doesn't ring like Flint glass, but something newer. It is pretty however.

It measures about 7" in diameter and 10" tall. One thing I like about it. The base has a scalloped edge and the lid is made to fit the scallops. I show that in the last photo. Anyone ever see one like it before? TIA!

 

US Glass, Banded Portland?

 

Yes, that's it! At least according to the EAPG web site. My reproduction book links Banded Portland and Barred Oval so I have more reading to do. They said that Fenton repro'd Banded Portland but don't list a covered compote. Thanks so much, I've been looking for days!

I found out that Fenton reproduced Barred Oval, but not a compote and all pieces had their mark on them. Banded Portland and Barred Oval had their names mixed up way back when (likely in some older books) but the pattern is definitely Virginia aka Banded Portland. It's a great original piece so I'm adding it to my collection. I didn't think it was that old because it has no damage at all. And my black light showed no yellow/green. So I shined my black light flashlight on all my EAPG pieces and none of them reacted, but I know they did when I purchased them. I'm wondering with all the changes in lightbulbs whether my blacklight flashlight is something new because it doesn't make anything glow, even my old Heisey.

 

I had a feeling it might be original, but don't know that much about glass to have put the suggestion forward. Congratulations on a nice addition to your collection!

 

Last entry: discovered that I need a 365nm flashlight to detect the manganese in EAPG. I have a 395nm blacklight which works on uranium glass but not manganese. I will order a new blacklight, who knew? Probably everyone but me, the flashlights all looked the same at Home Depot.

And I could write a book about what I learned about my new iMac computer. I spent the weekend finding out how to convert image .heic files (Apple's new format) to jpeg while at the same time compressing them (convenient for the board). This is for photos taken on my iPhone which I also learned I could set it to take only jpeg format. I don't think I'll ever be able to use my old Fuji camera any more unless I use the old iMac. Sad, I love that camera. All weekend, I would google something and Surprise! It changed without consulting me. But at least I got answers after I figured out how to ask them. I'm officially old and out of it.

 

@ola402 I am with you on learning a new Mac. I am still going through that process. My last one was so old but worked so well. My have they changed.

 

My old MAC still works OK, it's from 2015. Massive amounts of photos for eBay were slowwwwing ittt dowwwwn. The operating system was no longer supported by Apple so I had to upgrade to use TurboTax. I was excited to get a new computer but there are so many changes that become stumbling blocks because no one ever told me about them. I was studying up because after 5 years, I have a few things to sell on eBay.

 

I ordered a UV365nm flashlight from Amazon and it arrived. Went around all night flashing my old clear glass. This piece lit up nicely, as well as the Tree of Life compote I got for a fiver.

 

I gotta try that !
