IMG_2795.jpeg IMG_2796.jpeg IMG_2797.jpeg IMG_2799.jpeg Hi all,I didn’t buy this (yet) But I do like the bold strong colours and dramatic contrasts. The date is not clear, but Iam thinking 60-70’s? Couldn’t find anything on a S Greyling so talented amateur? Anyway so what do you think about it? Thanks all

I see S. Greyling too. And agree talented amateur. Older framing. 1950s/1960s to my eye.

    Image search says:
The artwork depicts a distinctive coastal mountain setting typical of the Western Cape region in South Africa, bearing strong visual similarities to locations like Kogel Bay / Rooi-Els or parts of the False Bay coastline where dramatic cliffs drop straight into the sea.“ seems very likely to me…

You might look for the signature of Sarel Greyling, a South African artist.

The Cape, I'd think. Not tropical enough for Hawaii.

Great sleuthing.:) He was trained as a graphic artist, that makes sense.
The painting itself is dated 89, but he could have used an older frame.

Very hard to make out the date on your painting, so another SouthAfrican artist is a Susan Greyling who is mentioned as a landscape artist on some sites. Her signature appears to be more similar to yours than that of Sarel Greyling .IMO.

Appreciate it. Thanks. I had a look and I also don’t think it is him. The date on the painting is messed up by the ‘g’ but so it’s difficult but I personally don’t think it is ‘89. In hand the whole thing has a older feel and look about it..

Nice relaxed style. Very easy on the eye. I like it.

  20. The signature reads most plausibly “S. Greyling”, with a date underneath that appears to be “10.7.82”

My strongest identification is Hangklip mountain seen from the beach at Pringle Bay, Western Cape, South Africa. The high cliff-like face, the long ridge descending toward the water, the sandy lagoon or river-mouth foreground, and the coastal vegetation closely match views from Moonlight Beach at Pringle Bay. Pringle Bay lies between the Buffels River mouth and a rocky headland, at the foot of Hangklip.

    S. Greyling, coastal landscape—probably Hangklip from Pringle Bay, dated 10 July 1982, watercolour/gouache and ink on paper
