Featured Thoughts on this butterfly necklace

What do you think is the origin of this necklace? At first I thought the enamel areas had a Chinese export look, but I don't know. The metal is not silver and most Chinese export enamel pieces I have had I think have been silver.
Also, do those turquoise dangles look incongruous to anyone else? They seem kind of clunky for the relatively delicate openwork of the necklace.
Just noticed that the center butterfly is missing an antenna. Shoot!

The turquoise bits look like dangles out of the 50s, as used here in the USA. They don't match the rest of the necklace really and I'm wondering if they actually belong there.

 

That's a very good point. They don't match in shade or in any other way. One would expect the dangles to be enameled.

Agree, the turquoise doesn't look right. I have always wondered if they were original to the necklace.

 

The clasp and the shape of the turquoise dangles are very Chinese, as is butterfly jewellery, so I would say Chinese.
It looks odd now, but it could be one of those necklaces that look nice when you wear them.

Looks like Hubei turquoise, so China. Tibetan turquoise is close but is generally even more pale green. Nepal imports a lot, so they have different types.

 

I have a necklace somewhere that was my mom's that is just turquoise dangles, of this type, on a simple chain that look quite similar (at least as I remember). Presumably they were from the time we lived in Arizona in the 50's and early 60's so would likely have been either NA or Mexican. If I can find it, I'll post it. (I've been shifting things about and not sure where it ended up).

Then again, my memory isn't what it used to be so who knows

Sorry I took so long to find what I was looking for. I didn't remember it exactly correctly but here it is, just to follow up.

My mom did have it for many years and, as I said, I'd think from the 50s or 60s when most of the turquoise jewelry we had came from AZ so NA or Mexican mostly.

Only the earring is marked sterling, nothing has been polished or used in the 25+ years I've had them.

 

That's more of how I'm used to seeing them. I've been known to use singles etc and make new necklaces etc with them.

 

Thanks for taking the trouble to dig that out. Stones are a similar nugget shape, but the matrix color seems more pronounced in yours.
