Featured Mexican Silver Watch Band

My wife has mentioned a few times recently that she wanted a watch. A real watch, that she has to wind. Not a smartwatch, not a Dick Tracy 2-way wrist-radio, but an honest-to-God WATCH.

Well, over the years, her tastes in jewelry has changed some. She still takes a minimalist approach to it, so I was more than a bit leery of trying to pick out a watch for her. There's a watch and clock shop here in Cullman that has done a little bit of work on one of my pocket watches, and they have a lot of interesting tall case clocks, mantle clocks, and antique watches. We went in, and while I was looking at something else (not interfering), she told the lady behind the counter what she was looking for.

Long story short, she picked this band, and what I think is a 1960's Elgin.

We both fell in love with the band, which is Mexican sterling with rose-gold accents. I've looked online, and can't find the maker's mark, but I suspect the band is also from the 1960's.

Anyone here familiar with Mexican markings? Any insights?

Circular Stamp & Numbers (GC-07 / 2): Resembles Mexican post-1979 letter-number registration codes or workshop inventory markers, where letters like "GC" designate a specific maker or designer registration and the number "2" indicates an individual piece or design number.

The internet says Cerro Blanco. Don't know if that's true.

Yes, I've given that a look, briefly, but I'll give a closer going over this morning.

 

Beautiful watch band. The gold on silver ajour work reminds me of Guatemalan jewellery, but the technique was also used in Mexico.

According to Hougart it is indeed Cerro Blanco.

I did find Cerroblanco Joyería, a family-owned business going back four generations. It seems the same jeweller.
I can't find this particular round mark with globe, later marks are 'Cerroblanco GC-01' in a straight line, so the one with the globe could be an older mark.

What a gorgeous watch! I'm with your wife, so tired of always replacing batteries. I have a lot of watches because I love them but I can only afford to keep a couple of them running at the same time. The last jeweler I went to about a battery wanted $50 and then said he would clean it too. That $50 times about the 10 or 12 watches that I have would be way too much to pay and the batteries don't last very long. A winder watch would be a little slice of heaven.
