Featured Fantastic Crystal find today!

I found this at the Thrift shop today. It was 1/2 price day so it was less then $2.
Its a Christofle (Never heard of them) Atalante Ice Bucket. It took me awhile to become aware that this is a highly desirable piece. There is one on ETSY that matched mine and she is asking $499.99. Now I know that's just an asking price. But it was the only direct comp. I could find. Other patterns of this brand are selling (actual sold comps) in the $150 + range. I'm feeling good! LOL.
If anybody can help me come up with actual sold prices on these I would really appreciate it!

Well, it's a good thing that the Volunteer of America thrift store hadn't heard of Christofle either!

I know the name, but as the maker of expensive silverplated table accessories. I didn't know they did crystal, but shouldn't have been surprised.

 

Christofle is big here in Europe. As said, they make silver-plated tableware. Later on they also branched out to crystal, often combined with silver-plate.

Since those two large holes are rather odd for an ice bucket, maybe it is missing a silver-plated bucket handle or at least two plated side handles?

Yes. I wondered about that when I bought it. The one on etsy is the same. just the holes. I looked closely at the holes and I see no scratching or wear around the holes. I believe that is just how it is. I found a couple of their silverplate ice buckets with just holes like that too. I'm pretty sure that is how it is supposed to be.

 

I don't know if I can be of much help, but here are my observations.

Your ice bucket looks like it could be part of the Atalante family but isn't exactly the same as the one shown on Etsy or the one shown on the R site. Yours is more flared.

The holes in the side look intentional. If there had been silver handles through the holes, I would have expected at least some scratching, plus why remove them? Other Christofle brand ice buckets that I saw (one on their web site) had holes in the sides of the bucket with no plugs. So I think this one as found is correct.

As for value, it would naturally be much more costly than most other crystal ice buckets because of the Christofle brand and quality. But I'm at a loss. Do you have some GooGone to take off the price sticker on the bottom? I had to laugh that this brand turns up at a thrift. You are lucky on this one.

 

My post seems a little redundant since we both came to the same conclusions. What to list it for? Go higher with Best Offer option might work.

 

The sticker is no problem. They usually just peel right off. Sometimes I have to give them a short soak in warm water first,

 

BTW, what are the measurements of your bucket? Christofle shows ice buckets, wine coolers, and champagne buckets to name a few. Maybe the shape difference is due to its function.

 

Yes, ice buckets are smaller because they don't need to hold a bottle as well as ice.

 

Don't know dimensions but that looks like a wine cooler. Widely called an ice bucket though.

It is 6 inches tall and 5 1/4" across the top

 

Those dimensions would make it a wine bottle chiller along the lines of this one. Like a wine coaster but with the added benefit of helping maintain the wine's chilled temperature. As it's wide enough, used for a champagne or white wine bottle.

As a complete dunce re silver plate- Christophle's the only plate I'd buy without doing the Google dance. Buyers are nuts about the stuff-congrats !
PS-This is why I still drag my old knees to thrift stores, great way to start the weekend.

 

Lovely score! I'd go with ice bucket because of the hole-handles. Let us know when it sells!
