The horn necklace was $1, the Art Deco French jet was $5 flea market splurge. By 10 am at 5he flea market,dealers were desperate for sales.

The vintage circa 1970s Napier necklace was $1.

The Coro earrings were $5, the Swarovski pin was $3.

 

And now for the real fun. This lady at the flea market had high prices for costume, but my gold-filled (I hoped) cameo was $10. Surprised, it's set in 14k.

The pearls were on the dollar table. Freshwater, Majorica (marked), old costume pearls $1, sterling clasp. These are most likely Akoyas...the clasp on the graduated strand was replaced with a strong magnetic clasp. The screwback earrings are 14k.

And my most favorite thing of all, dollar table item, not sure what kind, cherry amber.

 

He can't practice until tomorrow.
I still have to clear the dining room table, more pictures another day.

 

Got a stack of lobby cards today from 1940-1960s for cheap. They include:

Kit Carlson
They Came to Cordura
The Outrage
Sword of Lancelot

 

The good part about lobby cards is you can file a lot of them in a relatively small space so the spouse can't complain.

The cherry beads look like prystal - clear bakelite. The clasp is a 1930s screw clasp, dead bang correct for time period. The bead shapes are right too. It should test with baking soda and a damp cotton swab. Dunk the swab in baking soda and rub on a flat place on a bead. Red doesn't always test, but when it does the swab turns yellow/brown and pongs to high heaven of formaldehyde if you're rubbing next to your nose.

When I worked as a sign painter at Payless Drugs in 1980, there were stacks of these discounted to $2.99-couldn't move 'em.

I have a bracelet very like the top one. It belonged to my mother, who would have worn it to formal dances when she was in high school & college in the mid-1940s.

 

Bronwen, this is a new version of that bracelet. I do have the older bracelets like this, some in sterling (because I'm a jewelry addict.)

My mother's is sterling, with a foldover clasp.

 

I have an old sterling one with a push-in clasp here somewhere, but it's too small to fit on my wrist.

 

I I found a collection of sketches and drawings like this from Ethel Cobham, she drew 2 covers for vanity fair in the 1910's and many other covers and drawings. I really like her work (and I think I got a good deal

Very cool find, I assume this is her-Ethel Caroline Rundquist (later Ethel Rundquist Cobham)-1891 Minneapolis, Minnesota - 1982 Colorado Springs, Colorado. Known for: Abstract figure painting, Vanity Fair illustration , etching.
PS- Original illustration art can be quite valuable-haven't been able to find any auction records yet.Interesting that she got into Abstract art later in her very long life.

 

Quite an amusing cover. That's a later work though. Looks to be headed into the 1930s.
