Featured Bingo- Japanese woodblock print !

Saw this at a sale and it was quite cheap.It looked good but to my eye-the phone pics didn't prove it 100% original.I liked it and it was beautifully framed so I got it- repro or not (great image). Got home, carefully popped it open and voila-Real Thing ! It was pencil signed w/ chop/title inscription- the matting had covered this info.
Love the dog and the glow of a twilight street market.

It's titled 'Evening View of the Food Stall',Toshi Yoshida, 1938. It's set in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo, Japan (part of his 'Tokyo at Night' series) and also called 'Supper Wagon'.

There’s 3 sizes, the Shiba Inu, the Shikoku Inu and the Akita Inu, the Shikoku is the medium sized one which you don’t see as much as the others. The one in the print does look to me to be bigger than a Shiba though.

 

All I really know is he's a Japanese breed of FEEDME. Well-behaved, but a FEEDME.

 

I had an Akita for 14 years, my friends kids used to call her the Japper Snapper!

 

Snapped fish. snapped donuts, snapped chicken .... ?

 

Beautiful print! I haven’t seen dogs much in woodblocks. Dogo adds considerable interest!

Great find! I love a good block print. I woulda grabbed that one in a heartbeat, too.

 

Lovely print. Maybe a keeper or at least admire it for a good while before moving it on? Why is there a screen around the burger stall? Makes me think something naughty is occurring such as a peep show.
