Featured Tintype Man in Tent

Looks to be sitting inside a traveling photographers tent. The box he's sitting on is kinda interesting. Multiple hinges. There looks to be trash strewn about. Maybe a county fair setting. Just thought i'd see if anyone sees anything more in this picture.

Cool photo! The cloth backdrop with faded trees, etc seems to have either a large black stain or a section missing. With the loose papers on the ground, guessing that there is definitely some kind of story here!

 

A portrait of poverty. I very much admire his dignified posture despite his circumstances.

What's that around his neck?

 

maybe not so much , back then..

looks like a sweater trim , rather than jewelry..

 

This was taken in his free time most likely at a local fair. He would be have been at his best. What's frustrating is... In the day, his occupation would have been easy to read from his clothing. Now a mystery.

My first thought was a political campaign rally/event, or some such. A very cool tintype!
