    Good morning!

Just scored this BIG wall shelf/drawer piece this weekend. It's walnut and contrasting ash, about 30" x 30" U.S., and weighs about 15-20 pounds, so it has to be on a big wood screw inserted into a wall stud. It's a bit dark I know, but it's a rather dark morning here at Casa G.

Although the finials and such are machine made, there are some examples of higher skill involved, including the marquetry inlay on the drawers. But my favorite is the elongated fish, complete with scales, located on top of the pediments flanking the center crest. The bronze elephants and art glass mini vase are of course our additions. This isn't flatpack ya know!!

It was purchased in New York state, and may have been made in New York City ca. 1870 by the likes of Herter Brothers or MacKenzie Brothers. Please post if you know more.

Very nice.:) It has a bit of a Carlo Bugatti feel (love C. Bugatti!:woot:), but not as quirky.
