Hi! These two chinese guardion lions / foo dogs / shishi are made of camphor wood. They have a pleasant sweet smell of camphor and old wood especially on the bottom of the bases. The male lion features anatomically correct details and weighs 1485 g, the female weighs 1770 g. Both are 29 cm tall. Laquered red on the insides. Laquered/painted eyes, female with both ball and cub. The female is missing half of the upper right fang. I have done a lot of searching online as I always do, and I believe these are antique or at least vintage? Thanks for helping with any info and for looking.

My guess is mid-20th century, so vintage.

So not late Qing dynasty or early rebublic era? The lions have wear that could suggest old age, but I am not sure. Thanks for your reply, @Any Jewelry.

They can't be anatomically correct because they never existed in real life.

Edit for clarification. My apologies for the mistake.

On the wooden statue that is a representation of a male lion that has never been a living creature, the person who made it has carved the not living wooden statue of a male lion with testicles.

My poor English language skills makes it a bit difficult for me. I try my best. Perhaps it is better for me to stop posting on this forum/board. I don"t want to make a fool of myself with my mistakes. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    English language skills are perfect.
I wasn't criticising you, I was just pointing out an incorrect description.

You are doing fine if English isn’t your first language so you are not making a fool of yourself at all.
