Featured little bag of goodies

happy christmas everyone

bought this little plastic bag of jewelry yesterday for £2, lots of earrings and tings. bag was sealed but saw a hallmark on one of the rings so thought was worth it

most of the earrings are marked sterling or 925 (most are two earrings, a couple are singles

one ring is marked 9ct(375), - think amethyst stone

one single stud earring marked 750 - diamond ?

the white metal ring i'm unsure of, can decide if its rubbish or not (unmarked)

any thoughts appreciated

 

Nice haul, you can't go wrong for £2. The gold ring is nice, the other one looks costume, but is pretty.
The single dangle earrings can be turned into pendants. The Modernist one with the triangles will look really nice as a pendant, but it will work with some of the other ones as well.

the stud i suppose could be ok for a guy, from what i remember it was left only in them days, doubt that applies anymore though

Nice bag of goodies! The white metal ring probably is costume, the stones look to be glued in. Do you have someone who can test it for you?

 

hi marie, no afraid not. its a bad sign when the back of the stones are not visible though right ?

 

JMHO. if you call the art déco ring in ship form white metal - I'd test it for platinum. very typical 1920s/30s form (in German Schiffchen, in French navire).

 

Depends on the age, but as Marie said, the stones are glued in, which means costume, and not antique costume. But it is pretty.

 

It doesn't have the finesse of a platinum ring, and platinum never has glued in stones. A period platinum ring would have a millegriffe setting for the main stones.
I don't think it is Art Deco period, but revival.

 

Seconded. The white one looks like costume. The other looks like 14k and amethyst from this angle. NICE for two quid! I'd mess with the single earrings. The smaller ones work nicely as bracelet charms, or with a sterling chain the right size they would make a heckuva necklace. Put the jump rings through the chain links at irregular intervals and it becomes a funky modern necklace that's actually in style now.

Hey obb, from a little house clearance shop

I tend to avoid the major charity shop names now as they seem to be getting worse and worse

I get the impression things that are donated and are valuable are not put on the shelves anymore, they are going straight on to websites

 

That or straight in the pockets of the employees! Sometimes the stuff makes a trip through the register and sometimes right into the pockets. A lot of the good stuff metal wise at one store I go to gets purchased by one of the main employees who is a scrapper. I just heard the whole story the other day. They price it cheap for him and then he gets 30% off of it after that. So it’s not theft but it’s not making it to the floor. I suspect outright theft happens at a lot of the stores in my area before it ever gets through processing. Employees also get first dibs on buying stuff at many places even if policy is in place to prevent it.

Hell of a haul for $2!
