Hey guys, I just made my mos exciting aquisition in a while... a pre-WW2 British Pith Helmet... and I want to know more about it how old is it?, how much is it worth? (I didn't pay much, R$250 = US $65, but I'm curious) Any info is welcome

From the postcode, no later than 1917.

Very high quality. Hawkes are now Gieves and Hawkes. Hawkes bought 1 Savile Row in 1912, so you're looking at between 1912 and 1917. They may even know who it was made for.

Hawkes have over 249 years' experience creating the finest bespoke garments.
Now known as Gieves & Hawkes
The pre-eminent English tailors internationally renowned for quality.

It might have been made for export overseas.

No colonial conqueror should be without one.

If you can get the rim repaired (and any other outstanding damage) - you could wear it! I wear my pith when it's outrageously hot, and soak it in water when I do.

I don't think that would be hard to fix, right? The idea of wearing it does make me happy... I love camping and hunting, and this would be a nice headwear

My mate used to sell at the fleamarket wearing one.

I'd absolutely contact the maker. These high end Savile Row companies have very extensive records.

There's a joke in all this about taking the pith, but let's not go there.

We'd love to read it! I love pith helmets. I don't think fixing the helmet should be too difficult, so long as the actual cork shell is still in good nick. It's just a matter of tidying up the puggaree and redoing the edge-ribbon.

The puggaree is the folded, ribbed cloth strip around the crown.

Yet another word the British stole and added to the language.
