Featured Need ID help on stone/material in brooch

    This setting in this tested positive for sterling. I can't decide if the stone is a mineral or glass. It has some places that look like it has been ground flat, I don't know how to explain this, not rough, almost like pieces have been flaked or chiseled off.     Agate with a chip,probably dropped onto a hard surface.

    It is a lovely ca 1900 brooch, banded agate as the others said.
    It looks like there could be a small mark (fineness, assay, maker) on the C-clasp.

    Someone has been messing with the hinge, the two flaps sticking out should be straight, parallel to each other. You can bend them back gently using small pliers, make sure you cover the silver with a cloth so it doesn't get scratched.
