Is anybody able to help identify these plates? They were my great grandmother's (I am 65 and am English). I am looking to sell the set of plates and have no idea where to begin, or what they might be worth. There are no identifying marks as far as I can tell.
It looks like the dark blue swirls have been painted on by hand after the rest of the pattern.

Mid to late 19th C what's known as polychrome (many colour) decorated transferware. A transfer was applied first, then hand painted to embellish it. Gilded edges. Pinning them down to a particular factory will be almost impossible.

They've not much value in the UK, sadly. If they were Derby bone china, then worth selling, but they aren't. I'd hang on to them.

Judith, nice china. I'm in the US and have my Grandmother's good china - probably about the same era and English. It is known as Grindley Old China and production stopped about 1950. I see pieces show up for sale once or twice a year and Replacements has some. When I'm no longer around, it will go to my Granddaughter - making 4 generations in the family.

I don't think this was made by Grindley.

I think they are Mason's - Lovely. Unfortunate that young people don't want to set a proper table.

Mason's would be marked. The problem is that this pattern was made by so many factories.
