Something doesn't look quite right -- the wriggly line above "Patent Ironstone" appears different from genuine marks, and the letter's in "Mason's" seem too close together. But I certainly don't know for sure. The base looks a bit flat, too. Here's a link to some marks if you haven't seen it: http://www.janicepaull.com/xmark/marks.htm

Hard to see why anyone would fake a very utilitarian maker like Mason's. Here's a huge genuine piece I don't consider worth bringine in from the shed.

    Hi,
Turkey platters are big sellers here. I love old Mason's but no more room. I have seven sets of china now down from the 16 I used to have.

Af, if you would like to give away the turkey platter I'm sure you would have some takers in the U.S. :angelic:

If you ship surface mail in the next week, it will probably arrive in time for Christmas, but I wouldn't count on it arriving in time for U.S. Thanksgiving.

Definitely not in time for Canadian Thanksgiving... maybe U.S., though? (I'm an optimist by nature.)

Fig , it would cost more than it's worth to ship it to London, let alone America. It is very heavy.

What throws me off on this, it the *muddy-ness* of the impressed letters on the bottom - that and the shiney-ness of the bottom.
I am used to seeing them sharper (if still unreadable :)).
However, most all the Chinese fakes I have seen, have lettering mostly unreadable. One can almost make out what they are, but not quite.
By the way, the last lettering of which I spoke, was the lettering used for the fake company mark.

Oh, well... it was an idea, anyway.

Given the history of Blue nad White, and the original 'Chinese' style wares made in Holland and England, a tradition followed by Mason's, much later, it would be very fitting to have in a Blue and White collection, a Chinese piece imitating an imitation Chinese piece, or at least a piece imitating an imitation of a Chinese piece.

    Hi Mikey,
I have my doubts about your piece. It looks right and wear and bleeds look right but I am getting a strange vibe. It is not one of the new Asian fakes. I wonder if it could have been a "second". What I am trying to say is I do not know one way or the other.

af if you look at ebay completed listings you will see your platter sold for 425.00 USD.

That seems rather a lot. Unable to sign in at the moment, or use advanced search, must be the current outage.

Actually, I agree with AF -- why bother imitating Mason's? But you never know and there's just enough about your piece to make me go "Hmmm..." It's quite likely genuine, but I haven't handled/seen enough Mason's to be certain. Blue willow sells all the time, though.

I agree with AF and Kentworld - who'd fake Mason's? I don't do porcelain much, but I'd be much more inclined to question it if it were Capodimonte (faked left and right) or something like Meissen (faked almost ab initio), Royal Vienna, KPM or something. It would cost more to fake Mason's than Mason's is worth. It might be a purely utilitarian piece - hotel ware or something. That would account for it.
