China Cab 1.jpg China Cab 2.jpg China Cab 3.jpg China Cab 4.jpg China Cab 5.jpg China Cab 6.jpg China Cab 7.jpg China Cab 8.jpg These are pics from an online auction that I am probably NOT going to be able to go to the physical preview as my state has just gone into "stay-at-home" mode. They are from a consignment sale in North Carolina and it would be for our own use, not resale. Any thoughts on identification or value? TIA

Typical 1920s- 1930s Jacobean Revival style, probably part of a dining room suite.
Value would be minimal, wait for others to post that are more familiar with this style.

    Aesthetically, the value is maximal:)

That is a very nice cabinet, I think you will find the auction will be canceled due to the regulations on public gatherings.

@NCSophie , do you know how much they are asking for it?

Suggest you send them an email stating your desire to buy it, perhaps they can contact you after the quarantine.

NC says it's an online auction.

Here in my part of CA, retail about $250.
    Looks nice.

Value is generally what a customer is willing to comfortably pay for something they like.

It is an online only auction. The auction house is local and we know the folks who run it. They haven't figured out yet how and if they can keep the auction going, they have to shut down their retail store Monday at 5:00.

Plenty of auctions all over USA in progress now! Instead of floor bidders/internet bidders which is usual, they are being conducted online only.

It is worth pointing out that although auctions are still taking place online, picking up an object should you win is a whole other thing at the moment.

I think that's part of the predicament the auction house finds themselves in. I misspoke earlier when I said it was online only, they also have a preview day where you can go in and look at the items. Most of the people at their auctions are local, whether it's live or online, and I don't know how many are going to feel comfortable bidding on things they can't go see.

In the case of the china cabinet my husband and I are interested in it'd make a big difference if the finish was borax or veneerite. We picked up an art deco china cabinet a while back for $2.50 because it was in really horrible shape. But since it was made of good woods and veneers he was able to strip and refinish it.

Hi, can you show a picture of the work you did on the art deco cabinet?

My husband did the exterior in tung oil, the insides in poly. We turned it into a "pie safe" to hide all the modern kitchen small appliances.

If you intend to do to the cabinet you are thinking of buying, what you did to the other, - I would recommend not buying it.

Although your husband seems to be an accomplished woodworker, you have put Art Deco with primitive. I'm glad it works for your home and you love it.
If you did the tin work, that is really lovely. It would look beautiful on a primitive cupboard.

From an antique dealer's point of view. The Art Deco and primitive don't go together. Sorry, I don't mean to hurt your feelings. Just giving a different perspective.

    I meant no disrespect.
I was trying very hard to be considerate. The tin work is lovely.

Think of it this way: If you were to come here and ask us to id the pie safe - what kind of responses might be given.

It's probably going to be a bit longer. I feel the same as it's been a long cold winter in Manitoba. Be safe.

    Thinking a lot longer.
They may tell us it is ok to resume our lives and be cautious, but I'm thinking I'm going to stay in a bit longer.
The virus isn't going away. People will go out and two weeks later it will be spreading again.
