Featured Old ring with 19thC cut gems

I have seen the overall style called a gypsy ring. The method employed to hold the stones is not very secure, so hope no jeweller would use it for diamonds. However, the stones are very sharp & bright, especially compared to the condition of the metal, & looks to me like they were hand cut, not molded, so thinking paste or crystal. This is an older table cut & really no reason to think the stones & rest of ring are not the same age.

To my notoriously poor visual perception, the mark looks like A*.

So ís the consensus still c1900?.

 

I've had a fair bit of brass and glass jewellery from the late 19th century - made for the poor who could not afford precious metals.

 

Close enough for me. I, too, have seen lots of aspirational jewellery in brass & glass. I can usually smell brass, but Pinchbeck, which is basically a particular formulation of brass that better mimics gold, may be less fragrant.
