This looks like it was a lamp? at some point. I plan to take the stone of the base. Would anyone know age of stone?

I think it is soapstone. I don't care about the metal part. Just curious about the stone itself.

Age of stone will be thousands if not millions of years old.
As to when it may have been turned into a lamp. I have a pink one that because of the wrapped cord, I've always thought to be 1920s/30s. But that is just a guess on my part.
We were importing from China at that time.

Not soapstone. Not sure it is Nephrite either. There is another stone. Mine looks more like rose quartz.

You are missing the top. They had a tubular bulb.

If you are removing the complete base, you can try to scratch the base with your fingernail. That will tell you if it is soapstone or a harder material.

    I'd be thinking serpentine.

Can you scratch it with a sharp hard steel point? YES=serpentine, NO=Nephrite

    Nice piece whatever it is.

So a serpentine piece. Still, no matter, a very lovely thing anyway and certainly not modern.

@kraftblue put a hair on edge at base and try to burn it if it burns it is not jade. Make sure hair is tight. soapstone is a very very soft stone
