I have a feeling I might have posted a question about this this years ago... if I did apologies! Getting around to listing things I had in storage, already on hand and need some keywords. Not a huge brooch, approx 1 1/8 inch wide.

Is there a name for this kind of cabochon? Anything else you can tell me about the piece?

    Thanks!

Faux star, lines carved on the back of the "stone"to make it look like a star sapphire.

I think that's it, Holly. Thanks.

Meant to add a side view. Any tips on ways to describe the metal work? Age? For some reason this is making me think German.

Maybe Czech? The cab looks like Czech satin glass to me, but I could be wrong.

    Good suggestion! Possibly Czech.

Edit: Should add that from the back it looks all dented up, but that is deliberate as the front has 4 raised sections.

Should I call this "hammered" metal??

Czech faux star sapphire to my eye. Construction looks right for that too.
