If it's terribly fragile, I wouldn't, but this dinnerware was meant to be used.

Great way to celebrate St. Patrick's day Bev, hope you went all the way with cabbage too.
My feelings about having nice china and silver is that if your kids and grand kids don't see you enjoy and use them, when we are gone, they will assume they had no meaning or value to you and they may end up at a yard sale or landfill.

Love using the old stuff when I can. One of my main serving bowls is a nice German flow blue piece. I like the old Hull stoneware stuff too. Got fresh home made lemonade in a Hull Brown Drip Pitcher in fridge right now!

Love the brown transferware! And I use all "that stuff," too. The Spode, the Limoges, and a dear little pale yellow bowl with blue and orange flowers. It's Homer Laughlin, and fairly valueless, but perfect for beating my morning egg, even if the color doesn't go with anything. :)

Or...not... Seems there is a problem there. However, I'll babble on here and hope all my dear ones read this column.

Love to all, and welcome to all the newbies. I HAVE BIRTHED BABIES IN LESS TIME THAN IT HAS TAKEN ME TO GET BACK INTO THE FORUM!

    Or...not...

Since Bev is one of my "dear ones," and since I cannot start an entry on my own (??), I hope she does not mind if I highjack hers a bit.

On the advice of Peter, as conveyed by Greg, I have finally managed at least part of the mechanics needed to write in this forum.

HOWEVER, I have birthed babies in less time than this has taken!!!

First, my old computer died, then we thought I was going to. They put me in hospital, and I got a new sort of baby computer (which had trouble learning). Then I moved (initially to a place which had all the charm of an uninhabited yurt), and which did, therefore, almost as much harm as my illness.

Now I am much better. Not having to go up and down thirty-some stairs several times a day is to be recommended. Duh!

However, I have been able -- most of the time -- to at least Read the forum, to silently welcome all the newbies, to benefit from Brad's sense, Manson's whimsy, Greg's advice, Owned's horticultural savvy... well, this list could go on and on!

It is maddening not to be able to say, "Thank you," when I want to.

    More later. :)

SO very glad you are "back". And not to worry - Bev entitled her thread "Best Use of Antique etc."....and since so many of come close to qualifying as as antiques, this IS the best use of them - interacting, sharing, learning, teaching, and yeah, what the hell, loving each other..............

I am sure that Bev will be more honored than upset!

(Bev, if you need to beat me up for speaking for you, the line forms on the left...........)
