Featured My first ever oyster plate, Limoges dating questions.

I almost fell over when i say it in my local thrift so i had to jump on it. Measures 9" across, some wear to the gold around the edges, but no chips or cracks.
I know the star mark is for Coiffe Limoges, and the L S & s is for Lazarus Straus & sons, The new York Decorator/ Retailer.
Can i date this piece pre 1900?

This site dates the LS&S mark 1890-1920. It shows the other mark as unknown?

I found the LS&S in a donut mark (with Carlsbad, Austria) in Kovel's. Interestingly they call the company Lewis Straus & Sons and say they were porcelain importers in New York ca. 1895-1917. Don't know if it's a different company/different family member or a error on someone's part along the way.

I've always known LS&S as Lewis Strauss & Sons. Never heard of Lazarus.

Britannica also seems to indicate Lazarus. The family later owned Macy's.

It's been a very long time since I tried to get a name to go with that mark (on a number of pieces of china that were my great-grandmother's) so I think whatever source I got Louis from was pretty obviously wrong!

 

There seem to be a lot of people online using Lewis. Possibly from Kovels or there may be more to the story. No idea.
