[IMG] I have a what is it? What does it go to? I know the pattern is US Glass/Tiffin Kings crown/Excelsior. It measures 5" diameter x 7/8" high. At first I thought it was an underplate for something but it has a lip as if it is possibly a lid? The inner edge is sharp not smooth as a saucer would be.

Just a guess, because I'm not sure they made the item, but could it be the base for a Fairy Lamp?

The sharp inner edge is what is throwing me. A fairy lamp makes sense. I'll have to see if I can find one with a low base like this.

I don't know if this is the answer, may only suggest a possibility.

When glass is pressed, there is no way of assuring that exactly the same amount of gather will be put in the mold every time, so the mold is made to accommodate the amount. Sometimes this leaves an edge when the mold isn't completely filled. It could be your "sharp edge".

So you're thinking possibly a saucer, Tom?
I've noticed there are a lot of small nicks on the sharp edge as if something kept banging the edge

I hadn't gotten that far. Is there a cup sized depression in the middle? No? not a saucer. Maybe a bread and butter plate? Not really my area.

King's Crown was originally known as Thumbprint. It was first made by US Glass Company in the late 1800s. Tiffin Glass picked up the line after that and made it.

    Slightly more (or repetitious info)

King's Crown was originally known as Thumbprint. It was first made by US Glass Company in the late 1800s. Tiffin Glass picked up the line after that and made it through the 1960s. In the 1970s, Indiana Glass bought the molds and began making it, although they made slight changes to the pattern.

It is possible for a cup to sit there Tom. I believe it to be the wrong shape for a bread plate.

@*crs* - I had an item a while back in this pattern & I remember contacting a collectors group. I asked a question on their website & got a very nice response from one of the members. I couldn't find a link to the collectors group, but I did see they have a Facebook group.

Could it be the lid to a powder jar. Off to look.

That was one of my original thoughts Pat but I can't seem to find a powder jar or fairy lamp

Could it possibly be a flower floater or is it too small?
