Featured Hand embroidery table cloth ID.

Hello, I bought this hand emproidery table cloth in the thrift store. It was a beatiful before it was faded. My plan was to cut the brightest pieces and make couple decorative pillowcases. Before I take the scissors I think it is a good idea to find out what this piece is: style, origin, maybe time of making. The table cloth is cotton, app. 7'x6'. Any help will be very much appreciated.

 

Not really my area of expertise but it does look very similar in design to an Uzbek bedspread. (Suzani?)

I believe your embroidered cloth may be from India, a type known as kantha, which is worked in a characteristic running stitch. This style of cloth is made in the east Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha.

A suzani is worked with different embroidery techniques, using couched threads and chain stitch.

 

I agree with 2many, it is Indian, and is looks like kantha.
