1780 to C1830 this mark was used and known as the Golden Age of Derby porcelain. Robert Bloor took over running the company from the Duesbury family in c1815 after the early death of William Duesbury II (Duesbury and Kean company )and revived the company´s flagging quality and fortunes. Circa 1830 Robert Bloor dropped the Derby Crown mark for the Bloor Derby "thumb print" stamps. Beautiful plate by the way.

The piano stool makers were paying attention in metallurgy class. My late dad would do stuff like that making castings and got a "how'd he do that" look as often as not. People don't know how to let the material used do its own machining and sizing any more.

what fantastic information, many thanks adrian, quite early indeed then

would this have any appeal to collectors of derby or would the damage be considered to severe ?

Perhaps consult a Derby collector's group possibly on FB or similar?

Thanks for the tip Adrian, got a message back from the Derby museum

"This is certainly an old Derby dish and dates to c1815. The shape suggests that it may have been a stand for another piece, possibly a tureen.

It would certainly have an academic interest to collectors and you're right, there are collectors who particularly like pieces with old staple repairs.

    I hope this helps. "
