    Hi all,

I have a huge number of items that I simply don't know the right names, locations or dates of.

Should I post several pics in each thread of multiple items, or only one item with multiple images of it per thread?

Also, can anyone let me know who some good online appraisers might be?

I have items dating back to the 1800's, with many types of collections, so am hoping to find generalist appraisers.

    Thanks greatly!

One item per thread unless they are very similar would work the best.

When you do post pics, please select 'full image' every time so we don't have to deal with a ton of thumbnails to have to click on.

    Hello
You can post several like items in one question.
    Choose the correct forum.
    Pottery/Glass
    Jewelry etc.
Putting a number next to items helps to direct the responses to the correct item.

Furniture might be best with one item.

Best to copy the pictures on Microsoft word and just copy paste under your message.

I'm sorry...but what you need will take time and effort on your part , to get the information you want on each item in your collection.
There is no quick fix...no general one stop shopping.....xcept for here !!

We can put you on the right path to identifying your items.....but even then....you will need to properly photograph them and tell us anything you already know about each item.

Or, just give it all over to an estate sale company who will sell everything you have ....at whatever they think it's worth..:(

There is a lot of knowledge here and everyone e is generally very friendly and willing to help!

Otherwise, in the past I used value my stuff but they missed a few pieces that I held onto and was able to identify later, by pure chance, and made a lot more than they anticipated. That being said, we are only human and subject to making mistakes and not knowing everything.
I’m getting ready to use Dr Lori. She is a bit expensive but you can get a bundle deal.

I know absolutely nothing about this woman & her abilities. However, I have seen her name mentioned on this forum a few times & from what I can recall it was not in a totally positive manner. I also can not remember what member mentioned her & in what context.

All of that being said, before you spend money why don't you start a thread & ask the general membership for their opinions. You could do it in the general discussion section if you want to keep it away from the bots.

Oh, I have never heard anything negative but I did mention that this is a great place with lots of knowledgeable and friendly folks.

PS I hope I didn't make anyone mad with my other suggestions

I'm sure you'll get help with identification but appraisals aren't really done here.

Sometimes people will guess at what something might go for in their location if they have a shop etc. or people can sometimes find what similar things might have sold for at an auction etc. There are just too many variables as people on this board are from all over the world with different opportunities on how they might sell something to fix a price on many things.

You misunderstood my comment. You are by all means free to seek out any other opinion you need or want. This forum is definitely not the be-all & end-all.

What I was saying was that I remember something about this person you were talking about not being exactly accurate as far as prices go & that the prices she quoted were somewhat inflated.

The appraisal was the only reason I told them to look outside of here. I would only use her services for help on figuring out what I had if I was unable to get an answer in here. I always try to look up my items first and then I ask you guys. I get my values later with more research.
Again, this is a tremendously kind group with a lot of knowledge. You guys are also fun To talk to and I am glad you guys are around!
