I don't know which way the mark should be oriented, so...

    It's a small vase, 5 inches tall.

It has some bad chips on the rim. I bought it mainly out of curiosity and as a learning/research project.

Well, I haven't been able to find the mark anywhere.

The clay is fine grained, a greyish color and hard like stoneware. Hand painted, tube-lined decoration over what looks like a clear crackle glaze.

Help to decipher the mark and give a name to the style and era would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think it's possible that this neither Chinese nor Japanese and those are faux marks. (But will others agree?)

My best guess here is it says "San go" maybe meaning 5 mountains or 5th station of a mountain. The second character is probably a five or "go" in Japanese. I'm still doing some research on this pottery since it's not quite familiar. I've asked some people around me for more info. I'll feed you with more details soon.

I think perhaps the flowers are poppies. Beautiful piece but I am woefully ignorant of more then aesthetics with Japanese pottery.:sorry:

That was what I thought at first too until I realized I was just looking at the yellow center and there were big white petals all around. Looks just like a white poppy IMHO. The orange one threw me for a minute until I realized there are orange ones with yellow centers besides the ones with dark brown centers.

I think it is 20th c and goes in the direction of (Ogata) Kenzan style. Antique Inishie , couldn't the mark be read the other way round, as "Gozan"? The "zan" ending would be not unusual for a potter's name...
