Featured Coal Mining Posters, 1919?

I came across these as I was looking through a box of sheet music. All folded up and the paper is fragile. Should I frame them to prevent further damage?
Are they worth it? Are they worth anything? Thank you much!

Interesting. A couple thoughts - 1)they are not about coal "mining" exactly, but about buying stock in this company that makes coal briquettes for use in home heating out of the dust and other small bits of coal that are left over after the actual mining companies have shipped off the larger pieces. And 2) they look more like magazine inserts than "posters." See the little part near the bottom of the second one that would be cut out and sent off for more information?

I didn't look them over as well as you did Bakersgma geez, you're good, thank you! And very interesting! I'd like to know more but I don't think I go about this research the right way. I'm grateful for the help! Just one thing. They measure 22" x 17". Would that be magazine size?

22" inches a bit too long for a magazine, I would think. Not sure how adverts of this type were distributed then. Magazine insert? Newspaper insert? Direct mail? Do they look as if they've had stapes removed? "If You Never Bought a Dollar's Worth of Stock in Your Life..." Hold on to your hats; here comes the crash of 1929.

This newspaper has a 1920 ad for same company which might be of help to you in your research.

Looks like there is a fold running down the middle from top to bottom. Half of each dimension is 8.5" x 11" and that is a standard paper size, including the page size of some magazines. It could have been in the center of the magazine. It also looks like it could have been folded into quadrants... or perhaps the fold ran horizontally through the page.

Just a theory...

I second what Bakersgma said: " . . . And 2) they look more like magazine inserts than "posters." See the little part near the bottom of the second one that would be cut out and sent off for more information?"

I also second what Figtree said: " . . . Half of each dimension is 8.5" x 11" and that is a standard paper size, including the page size of some magazines (emphasis added). It could have been in the center of the magazine."

I remember some of the old "ladies" magazines in my grandma's house and they were much larger in size (not thickness but dimensions/size). If I remember correctly some came out quarterly, not monthly.

By the way, my (paternal) grandmother was born in 1882 and was married and set up housekeeping in 1904.

I found them folded in quadrants. In a box full of the old sheet music.
I'm amazed at how 'white' the paper is compared to the sheet music that had yellowed. But the paper is fragile, much more fragile than the sheet music.
Should I frame them? I feel I shouldn't leave them folded any longer.

Framing them is not the only way to preserve them. There are archival "sleeves" that will keep them safe and still allow you to see them. Not sure what sizes there are, so it might not work, but I'm sure someone here has a link to suppliers of such that you could browse for the size you need.

Thank you.
I happen to have frames up the ying-yang. And one I believe that is big enough for these. I'll use it for now if only to keep them flat.

Ah, I was trying to save you some money. Never mind!

You're beautiful, thank you
