LOL @ "$800. ?? No you stole that table !!" comment from a poster on another forum. And yeah, i think it was a bargain but sometimes that happens if you pay attention, stay patient and are persistent. And Yes, the early furniture gods smiled at me yesterday but, there have been plenty of days when they crushed me.

Now to convince the Ikea crowd to go after the Victorian stuff .... lifting other boats too but not so much the really old stuff until after you're finished buying and start selling stuff off.:oldman::oldman::oldman:

Victorian huh, that's some good stuff & the top of the market still sells for big bucks.

That's a big If. My living room set was built by Joe Sixpack & Co and isn't worth much of anything except as furniture. Roycroft can go for some real money too, if you can find any. Or Macintosh if you're in the UK; I don't think much of his work gets loose.

Well, see there! You should collect early furniture, you don't have to worry about brands or labels cuz it mostly ain't there! It's mostly about construction details, my fav thing! You really can't even think about form until the construction details are worked out.

Sometimes the same thing happens with jewelry. I have room to hoard/store that! Besides, you don't need the competition, right? (although if I see a 16th century Italian inlaid piece of case furniture going for pennies, all bets are off!)

Yeah, ditto for early american! I just dragged home this philly table today, tell you what, i am very impressed with this table. The build is very difficult, i didn't notice before but the drawer front is angled to match the front apron, ditto the back of drawer. The drawer front & back are angled exactly to match the splay on table, this would be tough enough with power tools but by hand? incredible, even the drawer dovetails are on an angle, this guy was very very good!
I am beginning to understand why there are so few of these around and the few that are are usually fake. VERY tough build.
