    billyd3us Thanks All my Friends

Picked this up today under a bunch of clothing in bin.
Each flower or design, has a ladies name stitched in the middle.
I was wondering if this was made by the Mother of all these females or kids.
Any ideas on this quilt ?

    Thank You

It's a poor thing, isn't it? More likely a group of friends. Possibly for a trousseau. Looks Depression era.

Possibly made by a Ladies' Aid Society from a church or similar - most times made for charitable purposes, but sometimes for commemorative purposes.

You can do a bit of research to see if made from flour sacking.

My Grandmother and her sisters and cousins started what they called a "friendship quilt" around 1910 or so; they agreed on a quilt pattern, and each made one block in that pattern, and embroidered their name.
They never finished the project, but the collection of quilt blocks remained in the family, and around 1970 my mother and sister assembled the blocks and finished the quilt - my Dad made them a quilting frame.
..... As in the link provided by dragonfly.

Similar things are still being done. A group of ladies at my church did one a few years ago. Each of us made a black and white quilt block in a certain size and one of the women sewed them all together.

Really, cool. Did it look like mine ? How old do you think mine is ?

It was contemporary, and each block was different. Mine had a red velveteen stereo speaker appliqued onto it by hand; it was being given to the mother of a teenaged guy who died of muscular dystrophy, and who loved running audio systems. I'd guess yours is from the 1930s.

1930's, very good Evely. That sounds good with the stereo speaker applied to it, very cool indeed.
