Featured why the long ffff legs carving

    little antique shop where i live has this for sale in window

    the guys never opens but you have to knock to view

    he wanted £15 for it but i passed as i wasnt sure, and dont want any more clutter than ive got at the moment

    anyone have an idea where he might be from ?, hes got like a suitcase thing under his arm

    cant find anything close online

    theres another little one near his monstrous legs, has a baby strapped to his front and back

    any thoughts appreciated

    The Nyamwezi, a tribe in western Tanzania, are famous for their long, "skinny" wood sculptures. Maybe some other carvers were "influenced" by the style.

    I'm not familiar with anything like this carving, but something about it has vibes of an Indonesian attempt at producing a version of a Tanzanian carving.

    Almost hate to ask, but what's he carrying under his left arm?

    Thanks for the info taupou, from what I remember, it looked like a briefcase or leather satchel type of thing

    There is a pair of supernatural monsters in Japanese folklore known as Ashinaga-jin and Tenaga-jin. Ashinaga has very long legs and short arms, while Tenaga has long arms and short legs. They work cooperatively in various activities, such as fishing. The face of the wooden figure looks Japanese to me, so perhaps he is a Ashinaga-jin.
