As the local papers and stations keep saying, it is one of the few bright painting he painted during his Nuenen period.
Nuenen is down the road from where we live, literally, and just before you get there, is the watermill. It is one of those idyllic drives that makes me fall in love with this region everytime.

    Sorry if I offended, KOT, but a) I dislike yellow, 2) I dislike orange, 3) I dislike brown, 4) 'n I really despise sunflowers.

Besides which, my favorite artists are Reynolds (Sir Joshua), Romney, Constable, etc.

(Komokwa) Have no problem with nature. I live on the upper east coast; the sky is blue, the grass is green, and nothing so lovely has ever been seen!

I AM happy the painting came home, however. :)

My wife just returned from visiting the netherlands with her siblings and after hearing of her visit and seeing all of the photos, I promised to go with her in a couple of years.

    I love the painting!

The view on the museum site is so dark it could be taken as moon lit. It's very calm for a van Gogh. Painted in 1884, when he was 31. He died 6 years later. This must have been right on the cusp of his transformation.
